It has been my experience that to have a mutually beneficial relationship with your website two mindsets/idioms/catchphrases contribute to its success: Keeping Up Appearances : to maintain a good front, make things look good even it they're not and Fake It Til You Make It
Last year at this same time, I began working on a new website for my art. The site I had for several years prior wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I out grew it, couldn't look at it anymore. It was irritating me which resulted in neglect, lack of commitment and a wandering creative eye for a fresh start and image. No doubt it was probably feeling the same way about me. I know the signs. I've been in relationships. I digress. Back to the website. For example, some of the coding needed just to have some type be BOLD or italic required using various paired punctuation marks i.e. _*# on both sides of the word and those code marks ended up appearing along side the word or phrase on the site. Just show me a B or an / to click on and I'm happy.
I looked online at other artist sites to see how they featured their work, new site hosts, templates and talked to some experienced and knowledgeable designers, artists, and techies, of which I definitely am not. The relationship I have with technology will ALWAYS bring out the red in me. I would much rather paint but I am getting better, trying at least. Just ask some friends and Squarespace support ( thank you with a B) who helped guide me through the creation of two websites in the span of one year bless their hearts. I knew how I wanted to come across with this new site which is always important and helpful.
So, beginning in 2017, officially well researched, empowered, determined and assisted with a vision of how best to showcase my art and take it to another level, the site is created. The domain name is transferred and it's live! I am genuinely proud and excited to promote and market it. There is still much to learn and do with it, but that will be fun (tbd!). Worked through the hard and challenging parts.
Long blog story short, I have this new blog space and I am not quite sure how I want to use this and what to express. I have a blog on tumblr which I like theme wise, a carry over from blogger.com years ago titled The Art of Creative Pursuits and Passions. So I will sit. I know in time I will get the AHA!!! that's it. In the meantime, I shall enjoy this new relationship with my website and making something of this new white space aka Blog.
